Pensansas
That's what my daughter Julia calls the process of really thinking something through. I borrowed her word for this space.

This is the first piece I'm publishing here. And it seemed like the best way to start was by telling you why I write — and why, one day, I chose journalism.
I think I chose to study journalism long before I actually understood what being a journalist meant.
As a child, I spent my summer vacations at my grandparents' house. I'd sit for hours reading on my grandmother's porch, always with a pencil in hand. I underlined the sentences that moved me, surprised me, or made me think — because I knew I'd talk about them with her later.
At night, before falling asleep, I made up my own stories. I dreamed that someday, somewhere in the world, a girl would read something I had written, underline one of my sentences, and later talk about it with her own grandmother.
My grandmother was the most important person in my life. And precisely because of that, alongside those dreams there was also an enormous fear. Some nights I'd cry myself to sleep thinking that one day she might die. I couldn't imagine a world where she no longer existed. It felt like, once her life ended, the world as I knew it would end with it. The thought of having to keep living without her terrified me. I cried until I fell asleep.
Maybe that's when I understood, without knowing it yet, why words and stories matter so much.
They can't stop time, or undo a loss. But they can preserve a voice, a way of looking at things, a sentence — and let someone keep us company even after they're gone.
Over the years, my fascination with books became a fascination with people too. I wanted to listen to them, understand what was behind their words, ask questions, and uncover the stories each one carried.
That's why I chose to study journalism. Not because I wanted to talk, but because I wanted to listen. Not because I wanted to be seen, but because I wanted to observe, understand, and share with others what I discovered in every encounter.
Journalism brought together everything I already loved: words, stories, and people. And live broadcasting became my natural home, because there are no second takes there — only presence, listening, and real conversations.
Maybe, deep down, I'm still that girl sitting on her grandmother's porch, with a book and a pencil in hand, convinced that a single sentence can connect two people and make something important last.
Not long ago, my older daughter, María, asked her little sister, Julia, how she'd managed to figure something out all on her own. Julia tapped her forehead and answered, dead serious: "because I have a lot of pensansa."
We laughed so much. But the word stuck with me. I started using it at home, told people about it — and, without me doing anything else, people started using it too.
Subrayar. Escuchar. Escribir. Pensansa. That's why this space is called that. Because a six-year-old, without meaning to, named exactly what I've been doing my whole life: turning something over until it finds its shape. Underlining. Listening. Writing. Pensansa.
This is the digital porch Julia named without even knowing it. A place for pensansas — yours and mine.
